Connected Backup for PC version 8.1 includes the following features:

Enhanced software support for the following platforms:

Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 (supported for PC Agents). You can also access Support Center and the Account Management Website from this platform using Internet Explorer version 6.0 or later.

VMware virtual machines for the Data Center software and Web-based applications. The supported VMware versions are VMware ESX 2.5.1, 2.5.2, 2.5.3, and 3.0.1. The VMware virtual machine must be configured to meet the system requirements to access Support Center and the Account Management Website.

IBM Lotus® Notes® 7 support for for use with the Connected EmailOptimizer™ feature.

For Data Centers that use an EMC Centera device for archiving backed-up data, the Compaction process can now purge deleted archive sets from the Data Center server immediately. This change improves performance and ensures that storage space is released properly. For more information, refer to the Connected® Backup/PC Data Center Deployment manual and to the Data Center Setup Help.

A new Agent setting lets you show an Agent Status icon on the computer where the PC Agent is installed. The Agent Status icon appears in the notification area on the Windows taskbar. For more information about the Agent Status icon, refer to the Agent Help.

Users can now delay or cancel a scheduled backup even if the Agent user interface is closed.

A new setting in Support Center’s Agent Settings allows the Automatic Backup window to open on the Agent computer when the Agent user interface is closed. The Automatic Backup window appears 5 minutes before a scheduled automatic backup so that a user can delay, start, or cancel the backup.

Incremental backups are faster.

Connected EmailOptimizer setting now applies to both Lotus Notes and Microsoft Outlook
