notes.ini
The notes.ini file contains settings that Lotus Domino and Lotus Notes rely on to work properly. The Agent Setup looks for the notes.ini file in the following path:
HKLM\Softare\Lotus\Notes\Path
Hook nCBMailT.dll
The Agent Setup installs the Hook nCBMailT.dll on computers with Lotus Notes. The Hook records changes to Lotus Notes .nsf files by creating Action documents in the Tracker.nsf database. Any process that uses the Lotus Notes API to modify a document in a Lotus Notes database notifies the Hook. The Hook reads the Tracking List document to determine whether a user modified a document and should be tracked, for example, the files the user selected for backup. The first time the Agent uses EmailOptimizer to analyze an .nsf file, EmailOptimizer adds an entry to the Tracking List document. The Hook then records subsequent changes to the .nsf file.
The Agent Uninstall program removes all entries from the Tracker database Tracking List document, cancels the registration of the Hook.dll for Lotus Notes, and removes the Hook from the computer. If the Agent cannot remove the Hook, the Agent deletes the Hook when the computer restarts.
Extension Manager nCBMailE.dll
The Agent Setup installs the Lotus Notes Extension Manager nCBMailE.dll on Agent computers that have Lotus Notes. The Agent Setup also registers with Lotus Notes by adding an entry to the notes.ini file. Each time the Agent analyzes a Lotus Notes database, the Agent initializes a Lotus Notes session.
The Extension Manager authenticates the Lotus Notes session by providing the Agent an email password that the user enters. The Extension Manager reads the email password from the config.ini file.
For version 7.x Agents, if the Agent Setup does not install the Extension Manager or register with Lotus Notes, when the Agent analyzes a Lotus Notes database, Lotus Notes prompts the user for a password.
For version 8.x Agents, the MailPasswords.xml file contains a User ID and a password.
Password Best Practices
- Enter the Lotus Notes email password in the Agent user interface by performing these steps:
-
Click Tools > Options.
The Options dialog box appears.
-
Click the Email Passwords tab.
-
Click the Notes User Id and Password button.
If the email password changes for your Lotus Notes files, modify the password in the Agent user interface.
- If the user enters an invalid User ID and password in the Lotus Notes Logon dialog box, and clicks Cancel or the login expires, the Agent log displays the following diagnostic message:
Diagnostic: The EmailOptimizer could not analyze. Full path and filename of Source .nsf file due to an invalid or unspecified User ID/password.
