Version(s): Connected® DataProtector/PC 7.0 - 7.5, Connected DataProtector/SV 2.5
Component(s): Data Center Server
Last Updated: December 5, 2004

This procedure describes how to move the folder where event log and trace log files are written to on your Data Center server.

Concepts

The Data Center services and other components write messages to the Application, DCMaint, and System event logs on an ongoing basis. When troubleshooting an issue, you can also turn on trace logs for specific Data Center components. Trace logs give specific information about a component while it is running. During the initial installation of the Data Center, a folder location was designated and created for storing each of these files.

You can change the folder location where these log files are written by following the procedure below. This might become necessary if the original folder location is running low on disk space or is being replaced.

Procedure

  1. Create a new \Log Files folder in a location of your choosing on the Data Center server. Note the folder path of the new location.
  2. Move the current log files from the old folder location to the new folder location.
  3. Open the Windows registry and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Connected\BackupDataCenter\.
  4. Update the LogFileDir value with the new folder location you created in step 1.
  5. In the Windows registry, navigate to and expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Connected\BackupDataCenter\DCMessageLogger\
  6. In each component key, update the TraceFileDir value with the new folder location you created in step 1.
  7. Use Data Center Management Console (DCMC) to reread the registry for each Data Center service. For example, right-click BackupServer, select All Tasks, and click Re-read Settings from the pop-up menu.
