This document describes configuring non-SOCKS firewall proxies to permit installation of a backup account over a LAN. Use this procedure if you are receiving a "No network connection detected" error when attempting to connect to the Data Center over a LAN.
Description of the Problem
The user, with a non SOCKS-compliant proxy firewall in use, is unable to install a backup account over a LAN connection, even though the LAN permits access to the Internet. The problem is usually associated with the error message "No network connection detected," and a dial-up connection works fine.
Potential Causes
The firewall is blocking the user's connection to the Data Center. The proxy needs to be configured to connect to the Data Centers, and the Backup Agent needs to be configured to connect through the firewall.
Solution
First, it is necessary to configure the firewall proxy so that it will permit traffic from the PCs out to the Data Center.
- Assign two port numbers on your firewall to forward to each of your two Data Centers. Choose any proxy port numbers -- note which port forwards to which Data Center.
- At the firewall, assign these proxy ports to forward to specific IP addresses and port numbers of Data Center machines. You can find the IP addresses of your Data Centers from your administrator. The Data Center software uses port 16384.
You can now configure the Backup Agent so that all PCs will refer to this proxy server. To accomplish this:
- In Support Center, open the Agent Settings for the desired PC Configuration.
- Navigate to the Proxy Server section of the settings.
- Select the appropriate proxy server setting, and then enter the proxy server address information.
- Click Finish.
- Download the Agent installer for this PC configuration, and then use it for Hands-Free Installation on all PCs behind this firewall.
