This document describes a known issue about the Agent prompting users for an Outlook password during a backup even though the Outlook files are not password protected.

Description of the Problem

If Microsoft Exchange Server components are installed and running when you install Microsoft Outlook on the same computer, the Agent will not be able to open Microsoft Outlook files to verify whether the files are password protected. Installing both Exchange Server components and Outlook on the same computer is not a configuration that Microsoft supports.

Because the Agent is unable to determine the state of the password protection, it prompts the user to supply the Outlook password, even if the Outlook file is not password protected.

Solution

  1. Verify that a mapi32.dll file exists in a folder named \Program Files\ExchSrvr\bin. The existence of this folder and file indicates that Microsoft Exchange components were installed on the computer.
  2. Uninstall Microsoft Exchange and Outlook.
  3. Reinstall Outlook.
