Upgrading a Data Center Web Server from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server

This document describes the process for upgrading the operating system of  version 8.0.3 or later Data Center Web server from Microsoft Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server.

Overview

You can use this procedure to upgrade your Web server from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server. The Web server must have versions 8.0.3 or later of the Data Center software installed to perform this upgrade.

It is important to follow the procedure for upgrading the operating system on your Data Center's Web server. During testing, it was found that certain security enhancements in the Data Center software are overwritten by the Windows 2003 Server upgrade. A script to reapply the security enhancements is available in this procedure.

Procedure

  1. Use Microsoft Internet Explorer to open Support Center to verify that version 8.0.3 or later of the Data Center software is running on the Web server. The software version is stated at the bottom of the logon page.
  2. Use Microsoft's software and documentation to perform the upgrade to Windows 2003.
  3. When the upgrade it complete, use Control  Panel Services to verify that the IIS Admin and WWW Publishing services are both started and set to automatic startup mode.
  4. Verify that Active Server Pages are enabled in IIS 6.0. Use the following steps to perform this task:
  1. Download Post2003UpgradeFix.zip to a convenient location on the server.
  2. Unzip the file. The zipped file contains two files (Post2003UpgradeFix.vbs and SetRegKeyAce.exe).
  3. Double-click Post2003UpgradeFix.vbs to run the script on the server. This script reapplies Data Center security enhancements that are over-written during the operating system upgrade.
  4. Click Yes in the Post Windows 2003 Upgrade Fix window.
  5. When the script has finished running, click OK to close the window.
  6. Use Control Panel Services to stop IIS Admin Service.
  7. Use Control Panel Services to start World Wide Web Publishing Service, and change the start up mode to automatic.
  1. Use the following steps to verify the upgrade was successful:
  1. Verify that no errors appear in the Application event log.
  2. Use Support Center to view an account's information.
  3. Use Support Center to run a report.
  4. Use Support Center to create an Agent Configuration.
  5. Use the Account Management Website to view account information.
