This document describes how to uninstall the Columbia Data Products Persistent Storage Manager (PSM) software. PSM is the open file handler that version 2.5.x Server Agents use to back up files that are open or in use during a backup. You can also install PSM if you are using a version 8.0 or later Agent on a Windows 2000 or a Windows 2003 system.

PSM requires that you have 20% of the disk space on each drive that the Agent backs up available for PSM's use. If you decide that you do not want to use this feature, you can uninstall it after you install and register the Agent.

If you uninstall PSM, the Agent does not back up any files that are in use during the backup session; it does not perform snapshots at a later time and back up any files that it could not access during the backup session.

Uninstall procedure

Use the following steps to uninstall PSM:

  1. Open Control Panel.

  2. Using Add or Remove Programs, remove the Persistent Storage Manager 2.3 Backup-only Access application.

  3. After the uninstall completes, you are prompted to restart the system. Select No.

  4. Delete the CDP folder from the Program Files folder.

  5. Restart your system.

After uninstalling PSM

After you uninstall PSM, the Agent History displays the following error in the details for backup events:

Failed to load the Open File Handler drivers. Continuing backup without Open File Handler support .
