Re: End of Life Notice for Legacy Licensed Data Centers and Agents

Dear Valued Customer,

In order to better meet your data protection needs, Iron Mountain is currently developing Version 9.0 of Connected Backup (“Version 9.0”) to:

  • Reduce the Agent’s use of computer resources during file backups and retrieves.
  • Make the Agent easier to use.
  • Make it easier for administrators to manage Agents and configurations.

Iron Mountain’s policies provide for the support of two major versions of Connected Backup. Because of this, Iron Mountain wants you to know that it has started the End-of-Life (EOL) process for licensed customers using Version 6.2 SP3 and Version 7.x of Iron Mountain’s Connected Backup Data Center and Agent (“Legacy Products”). This letter explains how to upgrade your Legacy Products.

Iron Mountain recommends that you upgrade your Legacy Data Centers and Agents to the latest 8.x version of Connected Backup before December 31, 2012. After December 31, 2012, Iron Mountain will no longer support Legacy Data Centers and Agents. Please note that Iron Mountain will continue to support all versions of Connected Backup 8.x after December 31, 2012.

To upgrade to version 9.0 of Connected Backup, you must upgrade your Data Centers to the 64-bit version of Connected Backup. Migrating from 32-bit configurations to 64-bit configurations is available only with Connected Backup version 8.5.x or later. If you are running a Connected Backup version 8.4 or earlier Data Center, you must upgrade to version 8.5.x or later before migrating to a 64-bit configuration.

Effective immediately, Iron Mountain no longer offers seat licenses for Legacy Products to new customers. Existing customers can purchase Legacy Product seat licenses until July 1, 2011. After that date, we will not accept Legacy Product orders, and we will remove the installation files for Legacy Products from the Digital Resource Center. After July 1, 2011, if you require a Legacy Product installation file to recover from a server disaster, you must contact Support for the installation file.

What do I need to do?

How to Determine Your Data Center Version

To determine the version of your Data Center, complete the following steps:

  1. Start the Data Center Management Console (DCMC), and then in the left menu, expand your Data Center.
  • If the version of the service starts with a 6 or 7, you are running a Legacy Data Center, and you need to upgrade your Data Center servers and Agents to version 8.x.
  • If the version of the service starts with 8, you do not need to upgrade your Data Center, but you may still have Agents running a Legacy version of Connected Backup.

For more information about upgrading your Data Center to version 8.x, see the Upgrading the Data Center guide on the Digital Resource Center. This guide can be found at the following link:

http://digitalresourcecenter.ironmountain.com/
data-protection/connectedbackup/pc8_5/documentation/
manuals/CB-85-DC-Upgrade.pdf

How to Determine Your Installed Agent Versions on Version 8.x Data Centers

On a version 8.x Data Center, to determine if you have any Legacy Agents in use, complete the following steps.

1.    Log in to the Support Center using a technician ID that has the Run Reports permission.

2.    In the left menu, examine the entries for your community. If the list of entries does not include Legacy PC Configurations, you do not have any version 7.x Agents on your Data Center, and you can ignore this notification.

3.    Create a report using the Agent Version and Configuration by Account report template.

The report displays every account in a community, including the version of the currently installed Agents.

If you identify accounts that use a Legacy Agent, upgrade these Agents to the latest 8.x Agent version. For information about how to upgrade your Agents, select from the following guide for the Agent version you are moving your users to:

Remember, to ensure that you can continue to receive support for all of your installed Agents, you must upgrade all of your Data Centers and Agents to Connected Backup version 8.x or later by December 31, 2012.

To have Iron Mountain upgrade your Data Center or Agents for you, please contact your Iron Mountain Account Representative to discuss pricing and options.

If you require the use of a Legacy Product due to your use of customized applications or scripts, including integration into a separate product or process, please contact your Iron Mountain Account or Support Representative to discuss ways in which a version 8.x Connected Backup product can meet your needs.

Subject: Announcing End of Life for Heal Feature

Dear Connected Administrator:

Iron Mountain Digital plans to remove the Heal function from Connected® Backup for PC. This Customer Notification contains important information about the affected releases and support information.
Background
Occasionally, Iron Mountain Digital reviews product features support in light of changing technologies and markets. To that extent, Iron Mountain will remove the Heal feature after the Q4 2010 release of Connected® Backup 8.5.

If you use the Microsoft® Windows® platform, we strongly encourage you to leverage the system restore utilities in Windows 7 to replace the Heal feature in the Connected Backup product line. The current release of Connected® Backup, version 8.4, supports Windows 7.
What does this mean?
If you use an older version of Connected® Backup, the end of life of Heal commences when those versions reach end-of-life and end-of-support. For example, if you use version 8.4 and Heal is a feature of that release, but Iron Mountain has not announced end of life for v 8.4., we will continue to support you until we retire the release.

If you have any questions about this End of Life Announcement, please contact Connected® Backup Corporate Support at one of the following numbers:
